Turmeric Log 3: THE REAL BENEFITS
Are there any real benefits in taking turmeric?...….Mate, turmeric supplies more benefits than Jacinda in a covid pandemic. This plant was originally used as a culinary spice and had some religious significance dating back almost 4000 yrs ago. Use of its medicinal properties date back to at least 250BC, and its arrival to the western world came via early European explorers in the 14th century. Since then turmeric has consistently grown in popularity, especially in recent years where people are becoming more health conscious.
No other spice in the world has been subjected to more clinical tests than turmeric, in search of its health and medicinal properties. So instead of reeling out a long list of its benefits I have chosen a few that have been scientifically tested and proved.
Firstly, turmeric's active ingredient is curcumin. This is a very powerful anti-inflammatory and very strong anti-oxidant.
- ANTI-INFLAMMATORY- Scientists have found that low level inflammation plays a major role in almost every chronic disease affecting many of us in the western world. These include heart disease, cancer, and a variety of degenerative illnesses such as Alzheimer's.
-ANTI-OXIDANT- We all know the benefits of anti-oxidants. Free radicals are known to increase signs of ageing and increase the susceptibility of diseases. Curcumin is so powerful, it not only has the ability to neutralize these free radicals, but also increases the activity of your body's own anti-oxidants. It's a real 2 for 1 deal.
-BRAIN REPAIR & GROWTH- There is a hormone (BDNF) in the brain that provides neurons with the ability to make new connections and in some parts of the brain even multiply. People suffering from depression and Alzheimer's were found to have low levels of BDNF. Curcumin has been shown to increase these levels. It's also quite possible turmeric can improve memory and even make you smarter.
-HEART DISEASE- Curcumin is shown to improve the function and health of your blood vessels helping to regulate blood pressure and clotting. Some studies found it just as effective as exercise. (NOW WE'RE TALKING). The anti-inflammatory side of it also plays a big part in heart health.
-CANCER- Many studies have shown curcumin to be a contributing factor to the death and growth of cancer cells. It is also predicted to be used as standard treatment in the near future.
After all these studies and the evidence of no side effects with positive outcomes it makes sense to get stuck in. And so you should. To get a good amount of turmeric in your system, a capsule type supplement is the easiest way to go. Just make sure you know what you're getting.
Buyer beware: A lot of people are jumping on the turmeric bandwagon, so there's a whole lot of product out there which is of no benefit, except to the pocket of these fraudsters.
Some capsules have been found to contain only 50% of the curcumin and many are missing the most important ingredient, piperine.
Piperine is a natural substance found in black pepper and (believe it or not) increases the bodies ability to absorb the curcumin by 2000%. Making it a crucial part of this wonder drug.
Q: How do I know what's in my turmeric capsules?
Step 1: Grow turmeric
Step 2: Dehydrate and powder
Step 3: Mix 3tbsp turmeric to 2tspn ground black pepper
Step 4: Shove it in a cap
Step 5: Shove it in your gob
100% pure and organic. AS GOOD AS IT GETS.
